Bettering Your Health by Improving Your Eating Habit
By Belinda Gutierrez

Imagine what the performance of your car would be like if it had a "dirty oil filter" or what the flow of your drinking water system would be like without treatments such as a water softener - your car would run but sluggish, your water will flow but could develop build up.

Your filtration system in your body is YOUR LIVER.

Your liver filters out microbes, drugs and dead cells from the body. It also filter out bacteria, chemicals, fungus, parasites and viruses. The liver also acts as a digestive organ and in order to successfully detoxify the liver one must consume foods that break down the toxins.

You can improve the condition of your liver by eating high-quality proteins and plenty of vegetables (i.e. eggs, raw garlic, onions and a variety of cruciferous vegetables - Broccoli, Brussels sprouts and Cauliflower). Eating these items take the stress off the liver and allows it to heal. Liver types are sensitive to fatty foods and refined grains; that is why they must eliminate grains altogether. Digestive problems that have included bloating, constipation and indigestion will soon be corrected. In the past, people who have followed the Liver Cleanse plan have been known to lose as much as 40 pounds of water that was retained in the body brought on by poor dietary habits, in as little as 6 weeks of being on this plan.

Most people will notice a rapid change in their energy along with a significant amount of weight loss. It is important to know the weight you are losing at this point is mostly retained water. A poor liver retains a large amount of water. Since water is heavy (8 pounds per gallon) it is possible that you will lose several pounds in a few days. Once your liver begins to improve your weight loss will slow down (which is good). After the water is eliminated from your liver you will begin to burn fat. One of the first things you will notice is improvements in your sleeping, digestion and energy. One thing you must remember, you did not gain all the excess weight overnight, so depending on the size of your stomach it can take months to completely flatten your stomach.

Your must keep reminding yourself that getting healthy is your goal, which might mean noticeable weight loss might not be seen right away.

It is important to know that water weight is lost faster than actual fat weight loss. The American Medical Journal recommends a maximum amount of fat loss per week should be TWO POUNDS.

Excess weight is deposited differently depending on four common hormone/organ malfunctions, or combinations of these malfunctions, they are the adrenal glands, the liver, the ovary and the thyroid glands. In addition to the weight deposition pattern, each of these hormone/organ malfunctions typically come with food cravings and other symptoms.

Regardless of what body type you are, the initial two weeks (depending on your condition) of our diet program will be what we call a "liver cleanse". This phase of our diet is designed to give your liver a chance to heal and repair itself so that it can optimally perform its functions related to the hormones that control fat burning and fat storage. All of the major hormones involved in body weight control interact with the liver. If the liver has been overworked from things like chronically bad eating habits, consuming excess alcohol, exposure to toxins and the use of medications; it may not process or activate the certain hormones that are necessary for weight loss.

The best way of following a healthy eating plan is to eat less saturated fat and lower your cholesterol intake, control your weight and do some sort of physical activity for at least 30 minutes each day.

Our plan is based on these simple steps:

Use up at least as many calories as you take in Be physically active (at least 30 minutes of daily exercise) Eat a variety of nutrient-rich foods Eat plenty of fruit and vegetables Eat fish at least twice a week Limit your intake of saturated fat, trans fat and cholesterol Limit your intake on beverages and foods with added sugars Choose and prepare foods with little or no salt

Recommendations of total elimination or the great reduction of refined carbohydrates such as bread, cereal, baked goods, pancakes, pizza and anything else made of wheat, oats or other grains - even whole grains - are serous when trying to better your health by improving your eating habits. Bran crackers (preferably with no added sugar or salt) are alright because they are mostly fiber. In addition, eliminate or greatly reduce all sugar and other sweeteners. These recommendations will continue throughout the program. The main reason refined carbohydrates MUST be kept low is because they trigger the release of the hormone insulin from the pancreas. ANY significant insulin release will shut off your body's ability to burn fat for one to two days. If you eat more than 20 to 25 grams of refined carbohydrates (about the amount found in one slice of white bread) in a day, you will not be able to burn fat for the next one to two days, no matter how well you eat or how much you exercise those days. You will burning up calories, but not from fat - you will burn up whatever sugar is in your body and then your body will start eating muscle tissue to convert it into sugar. On those special occasions where you might get the urge to cheat remember that it is not the end of the world, just one to two days of wasted work trying to reach your weight loss goal.

If possible, you should try to avoid eating animal proteins (meat, poultry, dairy products, etc.) during the liver cleanse program. The liver has to process the proteins you take in, and animal proteins are the hardest for it to process. So, the relatively low protein intake during the liver cleanse is intended to give the liver a rest and allow it to recover. Small amounts of low-fat yogurt or cottage cheese, organic eggs and fish (especially eaten raw) are the best choices if you feel the need of some animal protein during the liver cleanse phase.

If you feel dizzy, weak or unusually cold or tired while on this liver cleanse, you should increase your animal protein intake with about 10 grams per day - preferably in the morning and early afternoon. Continue to add protein as needed until you are feeling better.

The following guidelines for the grams of proteins in certain foods:

1 egg = 7 grams 1 chicken leg = 10 grams 3 oz canned tuna (in water) = 20 grams 1/2 cup plain yogurt = 11 grams 1/2 cup cottage cheese = 15 grams

Most fats should be kept as low in the diet as possible. This means eliminating or greatly reducing fried food, butter, margarine, shortening, lard, bacon grease, and cooking oil. During the liver cleanse, if you must use some type of fat/oil for cooking, organic coconut oil is the best choice. Olive oil is the second best choice for cooking, or it can be used in salads dressings.

So, if you are wondering "What should I eat while on the liver cleanse program?" The answer is vegetables and fruits (fresh or frozen), nuts and seeds.

You can eat unlimited quantities of any kind of vegetables, preferably raw, but lightly steamed is alright. The best vegetables for helping the liver recover are the cruciferous type, which include broccoli, cauliflower, kale, and radishes. The sprouts of these cruciferous vegetables are particularly high in nutrients and are usually easier to digest raw. When possible it is best to consume organic vegetables. Organic vegetables are not as contaminated with pesticides and other chemicals which are damaging to the liver.

You can eat unlimited quantities of apples. All other fruits and berries should be consumed in quantities of about 1/3 of the quantity of vegetables consumed. Again, organic is best.

Nuts and seeds can also be eaten in unlimited quantities as long as they are not salted.

Losing weight is probably your motivating factor, there are actually more important signs that show you are on the right track in the first few weeks. Among the things we are looking for are your clothes fitting more loosely, your energy level is higher and you are sleeping better, your skin looks healthier and you are in a better mood.

The weight loss will happen. You need to be patient. Allow your body time to heal.
