Weight Loss and Time
Weight Loss and time can be a major issue. One of the main reasons why
people often resist beginning a weight loss or exercise program is the lack of
time in their lives. However many times there is just a perception of lack of
time.
In the society that we live
in today time can often be a rarity due to work and family commitments. The
thing you must focus on is that you are not taking up some sort of hobby that
is going to intrude on your time. We are talking about your health, and let's
face it, without your health you will not be able to live a full or long life.
When asked, many people will
say that their main priorities consist of their families, their work, and
financial stability. However ill health will result in your life being
restricted in many ways, it will affect your ability to work, restrict quality
time with your family, and impose potential financial burdens. So your number
one priority always should be your health.
The one thing that you have
in common with the wealthiest and most successful people in the world is that
you are allocated twenty four hours in the day, which is the same as every
other person on the planet. No amount of money is ever going to let you or anyone
else buy an extra second over the twenty four hours that is allocated.
Time is one of your most valued
possessions and once gone, even a minute of that time can never be replaced.
Ask anybody who is terminally ill or coming towards the end of their life, if
they had a wish what would they wish for. It's a guarantee that they won't wish
for more money, a beautiful house, or an expensive car. The one wish they will
have will be for more time.
The thing you need to do is
to ask yourself with complete honesty if your time is being spent wisely. Think
of what benefits you are getting the way that you are spending your time. If
you find that you are not getting benefits out of how you spend your time, then
you will need to do something about it. Time is far too valuable a commodity to
be wasted as it can never be replaced.
Many people fall under the
impression that they have to dedicate lots of time for exercise and getting
fit to reach their weight loss goals. This simply isn't the case. 30-45 minutes a day is going to be ample for
your needs. Before you say you can't find that time in a day, think carefully
about your daily activities and you will find that you can probably easily
squeeze out the time that you need for exercise if you really want to.
One of the biggest activities
that eats away at your time with virtually no benefit for you personally is
television. You come home from work and after doing what needs to be done, you
will slump down in front of your television for a few hours before going to
bed. Remember while you sit there you are not getting any health benefits, and
you are not burning calories. Instead you are just storing them on top of the
ones you have already have stored.
Now people may say that they
find television entertaining and that it helps them to unwind. You can be
entertained and relaxed by your television after you have exercised, or even
exercise while you have the television on. The people on television get paid
lots of money because you sit around watching them perform, what do you get?
You store up calories which are then converted to fat. Your precious time gets
eaten up, and you certainly don't get paid lots of money for watching.
Start thinking seriously
about your own life and not about the lives of the characters you see on
screen. Missing half an hour of television is not going to harm you. What it
will do is to give you the opportunity to exercise which in turn will bring you
numerous health benefits, including weight loss, over time.
The thing is that over the
years we have become used to other people telling us what to do. Over a period
of we have surrendered the right to be responsible for ourselves and started to
rely on others to tell us how we should be living our lives. By relinquishing
responsibly we relinquish control, and having control over our own lives is one
of the greatest gifts that we can have.
We are always being told what
is good for us and what isn't good for us. People tell us what we should be
eating, where we should be eating, how we should be spending our leisure time,
how we should be spending our money, how we should be raising our children and
what we should be doing as a society.
If you don't believe this
then just have a little think. The government issues guidelines on what is good
for us and what isn't. Television adverts try to persuade us on what we should
be buying. So called experts tell us how to raise children. The media try to
sway our opinions to match their opinions. Everywhere you look someone is
telling you, or trying to persuade you to live your life in a certain way.
In general people just follow
along because they believe that authority figures will know best. People have
the perception that others are more qualified in knowing how everyone else
should live their lives.
Now here's the thing. You are
an individual, you have your own mind and you have your own body. Do you really
want to place either of these into the hands of someone else? You should take
the responsibility to look after body and mind simply because they belong to
you, and nobody else will care about them as much as you should do. You may be
under the impression that other people have a genuine concern about your health.
This may be true to a certain extent but it is not always the case.
What many people or
industries want to know is how much money they can get out of you and how much
money it is going to cost them to get your money, unfortunately that is the bottom
line. You can join an exercise class and you may think that the people who run
this class are genuinely interested in your health. Try to keep in mind that
this class is a business and any business is motivated by money. The more
people that sign up for an exercise class the more money that business will
make.
If you don't lose weight then
you are told that you didn't try hard enough, so it is down to you. If you do
lose weight the people who run the exercise class will be the ones credited
with your success. Remember that they did not exercise for you, you did that.
Remember that they didn't get you to change your eating habits, you did that.
In the end you are the one that is going to do it and not anybody else.
Diet and nutrition can be a
complex area these days. We are often informed about percentages of
carbohydrates, percentages of fats, percentages of protein, saturated fats,
unsaturated fats, polyunsaturated fats, percentages of salt, percentages of
sugar, and the list goes on. After being bombarded with all this information we
begin to believe that we don't know enough about the subject to make our own
minds up. So we spend our money on books, diet classes, magazines, and
expensive slimming foods and aids, so that we can learn about what we should be
eating.
If you think about it you
will already have a fair idea about which food is good for you and which food
is not. Learning to eat properly is not rocket science. You will know that a
chicken or salad sandwich is healthier than half a dozen doughnuts and a creamy
milkshake. You will know that eating red meat a couple of times a week is going
to be healthier than gorging on it every day. You will already have a good idea
about what is good food and what is bad food and you don't need to buy a book
to find that out. You certainly don't need to be a nutritional expert to know
that a boiled potato is healthier than a serving of fries.
As you can see your knowledge
about food is far greater then you probably think. Common sense goes a long way
towards deciding what you are going to put into your body.
When it comes to exercise
things can become a little more complicated, as there are so many variations.
It is true that you will need to learn to exercise in a safe manner to avoid
causing yourself any injuries. Again this doesn't mean that you have to become
an expert in fitness and exercise in order to improve your health.
It doesn't take long and
there are numerous sources where you can learn about exercising safely and
effectively. Virtually all the information you will need on technique and
exercise is available for free on the internet, and it is just a question of
looking for it. Once you learn what you need to know, then you are on your way.
The simple fact is that if you want to lose weight you must move, and the
more you move the more calories you will burn.
Some people say that they don't have the energy to exercise. The problem with this is that those people will never get more energy unless they exercise, purely because to gain more energy you will need to spend more energy. Think about it, if you only have the energy to do ten push ups and you continue adding a extra push or two on a daily basis, in a few weeks you could be doing thirty push ups. So by spending energy over a few weeks you have increased your energy whereby you now have the energy to do thirty push ups.
Spending energy equals increased energy
Information about what to do
in regards about losing weight is very accessible in this day and age. However
information on its own doesn't mean a thing unless you make the decision by
taking action. Continue acting on the information that you have and you will
get results. Not acting on the information that you have will get you no
results.
Take control of your own life that is why you were given a life, it's your life so it's you that should be taking the decision as to what you are going to do with it. Responsibility puts you in control and once you are in control you are the one that makes the decisions, instead of someone else making them for you. Some people equate responsibility as something that can be negative and associated with the word blame. However responsibility is a positive trait because by being responsible you put yourself in charge and ultimately that is where you should be.
The ultimate question is: How important is your health, weight loss and time go hand in hand, value both!
